LXXXVIII
Monday, Sept. 26.
We spent this morning shopping. Mamma ordered a wrap and I a dress and sack at Norths. This afternoon we have been to Napoleon’s tomb and the Hotel des Invalides the Soldiers Hospital. The tomb is magnificent, of red posphyny presented by the Emperor of Russia, and is very impressive. Three of his four brothers are buried in the Dome church with him, but Napoleon III was not allowed to be buried there. In the Chapel adjoining are three hundred flags taken by the French at various times. Leaving here, we drove around the City again, and saw the place of the Bastile and several monuments. We returned to the Hotel quite tired out.
