An uneventful day. This morning we spent in the hotel while Father was absent on business. At twelve o’clock we took the train on the Yorkshire RR for Harrogate. Changing cars at Holback, we arrived here at about three o’clock. [Emrick] is still feeling quite badly, so we have come here for a few days’ rest. This place is the Saratoga of America. It is very beautiful and an excellent place to see English society. We tried to get rooms at the Queen Hotel, but failing to do so, are here at the Granby. We had five o’clock tea this afternoon, and this morning eat [sic] our first “Table d’hôte” dinner. We were all much pleased with the table d’hôte. We are suffering from the cold here, as we did in Manchester. Father, Queen and I walked around the town a little this morning.
