Sunday, Sept. 25.
We arrived in Paris this morning at five o’clock. Such a night as we spent last night in a European sleeping car can better be imagined than described. We did not sleep at all, but sat up and studied human nature by gas-light and moon-light for twelve hours. Arriving at our hotel, the Normandy, we went right to bed and took four hours good sleep. After breakfasting at noon, we took a long drive through the Bois du Bologne, and on the way saw many of the public buildings. We can now appreciate “la belle Paris”—for it is certainly beautiful—fascinating—by far the most beautiful city in Europe.
