Exhibit hours are:    Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Exhibit hours are:    Tuesday Evenings    4:30 PM –  6:30 PM

Dress uniforms of Veterans who served in three branches of the U.S. Armed Forces from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries will be on display at Wistariahurst from May 24, 2022 through Aug 22, 2022.  Selected from uniform collections at Holyoke Veterans Services and Wistariahurst, this exhibit aims to help viewers interpret and understand the subtleties of military uniform insignia and details.  Learning how to read these signs of rank, titles, medals and awards allows visitors to more deeply understand the experience of the soldier who wore the uniform. Through interactions with these textiles visitors will engage with Holyoke’s military heritage through an inclusionary and accepting lens. Viewers will be challenged to confront and comprehend the impact military service has on a community. Guest curator Nicholas Anderson is an American military historian from Long Beach, California working on his graduate degree in History at UMass.

This exhibit is a collaboration between Holyoke Veterans Services and Wistariahurst and supported by a Massachusetts State Historic Records Advisory Board Veterans Heritage Preservation Grant and Holyoke Local Cultural Council Grant. Thanks to Massachusetts SHRAB Veterans’ Heritage Preservation Grant, The Holyoke Local Cultural Council Grant and The Wistariahurst Foundation for their support.
