Janet Stupak has been painting landscapes for about 40 years. She has captured scenes from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where she grew up, and many other states where she has lived, from the historic stone ironmaster’s house of Charming Forge, Pennsylvania to the round barns and tobacco barns of Illinois. Currently Stupak lives in Holyoke and is painting local landscapes, including the wondrous brick factory buildings.
In her own words, “I paint for the way it makes me feel. When I am engaged in art making, I am fully caught up in the medium, my tools and my mission. I’ve learned not to think about the piece that I will end up with because the time spent engaged in the creative activity is what is most important to me. I enjoy feeling detached yet completely engaged. The process brings me such joy; the product is a bonus! “Stupak works in acrylic, mainly painting on canvas. Some of her paintings are mixed media, and some include components such as threads.
Gallery hours are Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the gallery is $3 General / Free for Members
