Come celebrate the exhibition of Wistariahurst Needlework pieces, Stitch by Stitch, guest curated by Joanne Picard. Joanne has been studying and reproducing historic samplers for more than 30 years. She was initially attracted to them by the variations in alphabet styles, the range of colors (though now often faded), and the questions they raised about the identities and lives of their makers.
The pieces Joanne selected from Wistariahurst’s textile collection includes samplers from what are now the United States and the United Kingdom. They span about 160 years (approximately 1690 to 1850) and reflect a range of styles. Each sampler is unique, yet they all embody commonalities of the form.
This is a “Must See” exhibit for anyone with interest in needlework, sewing and fiber art.
The exhibit runs through August 18, 2019.
