Homespun: One Hundred Years of Textile Arts in Holyoke / Hilandería casera: Cien años de artes textiles en Holyoke
Fall of 2018, Wistariahurst Museum and ArteSana are coming together to present Homespun One Hundred Years of Textile Arts in Holyoke, an exhibition featuring textiles and fiber arts pieces from our region’s past and present. The exhibition pays homage to the women who formed the core of the historic textile industry in Holyoke and to the individuals who taught at beloved institutions such as the Holyoke Creative Arts Center and the Skinner Coffee House, ensuring the survival of these intricate art forms. At the same time, it celebrates all those who carry on that legacy today, showcasing artists who are breaking new ground as they explore form, media, and meaning through fiber arts.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to see pieces from the Wistariahurst Archive’s textile collection alongside contemporary pieces by artists across the Pioneer Valley. From 19th century samplers, to intricate quilts, to modern fashion, Homespun shows off the wide range of what is possible with a little thread and a little fabric.
We are looking for regional artists of all identities and backgrounds who work with textiles or fiber to submit original pieces which show off the diversity and creativity of the contemporary fiber arts scene in the Pioneer Valley. En otoño de 2018, el Museo Wistariahurst y ArteSana se unen para presentar Hilandería casera: Cien años de artes textiles en Holyoke, una exposición que presenta piezas textiles del pasado al presente de nuestra región. La exposición rinde homenaje a las mujeres que formaron el núcleo de la industria textil histórica en Holyoke y a las personas que enseñaron en instituciones queridas como el Holyoke Creative Arts Center y el Skinner Coffee House, asegurando la supervivencia de estas intrincados medios artísticos. Al mismo tiempo, la exposición celebra a todos aquellos que continúan ese legado hoy, mostrando artistas que están abriendo nuevos caminos a medida que exploran la forma, los medios y el significado a través de las artes de fibra.
