Attention! Translating Uniforms, Understanding Service was an exhibit of veteran uniforms and accessories on display at Wistariahurst during the summer of 2022. Over the course of the summer, several local veterans have volunteered to share their stories of service to accompany the historic garments on view. The oral histories of these veterans, collected through collaboration between the Veterans Services and Wistariahurst and supported by a Massachusetts State Historic Records Advisory Board Veterans Heritage Preservation Grant and Holyoke Local Cultural Council Grant, aided in the storytelling, understanding, and appreciation of the artifacts on display as well as military service as a whole.
Following the opening of the exhibit in May, a variety of guest speakers hosted lectures on topics relating to military service, diversity in the military, as well as the creation of American military dress.
