Carrying a Prayer: Reclamation, Remembrance, and Honor- Anthony Melting Tallow
Anthony Melting Tallow’s exhibition “Carrying a Prayer: Reclamation, Remembrance, and Honor” was on view in Wistariahurst’s gallery during the fall of 2022. This powerful and vibrant installation commented on the injustices towards indigenous people. Melting Tallow’s work addresses land dispossession, residential school intergenerational trauma, reframing indigenous voices, misappropriation of native imagery, and violence against indigenous women. One aspect of this exhibit that was especially powerful were and installation of feathers hanging from the ceiling. This installation related to the violence against indigenous women, embodying the memory of those who have gone missing “The feathers represent a memorialization and remembrance of their spirit” Tallow said in an interview. His work also represents his community’s strength hope he has for the future.
